John, the GPS files are only for the folks wearing Fancy Pants. Most people don’t bother with them, so you’ll have plenty of company.

On Saturday, June 20, we’re going to head south on I-77 to Uhrichsville to ride some of the best hills and curves Ohio has to offer. We’ll take a rest stop in Uhrichsville before we head south out of town on Rte 800 for a few miles. A sharp left turn takes us up a hill, onto the Tappan-Moravian Trail Scenic Byway, originally a stage coach route.…[Read more]

What a day it was yesterday – mid 70’s, sunny skies, and s slight breeze – and what a marvelous ride we had. Thirty-five riders on 30 bikes participated in what turned out to be a 3.5 hour ride to the New Sandusky Fish Co where we dined on fresh-caught perch and walleye in a gazebo overlooking the bay. A special thanks to Kurt and…[Read more]

Here is the GPS route for our ride tomorrow, June 6, 2020. I’ve made a few changes from last year to avoid road construction and closures. This year we’ll ride one-lane Dean Road as it crosses the Vermillion river just north of I-80. This is perhaps the most charming little stretch of road in Ohio.
This will be a leisurely 3-hour ride with two…[Read more]

2nd Online User Group Meeting — May 9, 10:00 AM to noon
Our first online GPS/BaseCamp User Group meeting was a success! I think it’s fair to say we all learned a lot, with everyone contributing their questions, answers, tips and tricks. Mark showed us his Basecamp screen online and we helped him figure out how to transfer active tracks from his…[Read more]
Online User Group Meeting — April 18, 10:00 AM to noon
Thanks to the Corona Virus pandemic our face-to-face user group meetings had to be cancelled, but all is not lost. Let’s try doing an online version using Zoom. We tried it at one of our Wednesday morning Zoom meetings (that we have in lieu of Wednesday breakfasts) and it seemed to work just…[Read more]
Would you like to know how to load routes into your GPS, plan routes and stops while you’re riding, or create routes on Basecamp? Have you run into problems using your GPS or Basecamp? Or do you have tips you’d like to share, or an amazing route you created you like to show to the group? Good news – the GPS/Basecamp Users Group is going to meet…[Read more]
<div>Larry, you’re right about the road hazards you mention, but what makes me most squeamish is those “guard rails” made of two cables and metal stakes with the stakes protruding above the upper cable. They would surely rip one’s guts out if you had the misfortune of running into one.</div>
Our last Saturday Club Ride of the year will leave Bob Evans in Macedonia at 10 AM Saturday, October 19, and take us north on Chillicothe and Caves Roads to the Holden Arboretum for a rest stop. From there we’ll ride along the Lake Erie Bluffs taking some small roads (all paved, but a few short stretches are in poor shape) that are tree canopied…[Read more]
I revised the Friday afternoon to take SR 278 and 160 from Nelsonville to Gallipolis which will give us a little more forest riding and not duplicate the likely Sunday route home following SR 7 along the Ohio River.
The weather forecast for Gallipolis for this Saturday is 76 and mostly sunny, perfect for our fall weekend ride. Rooms are still available at the Quality Inn so its not too late to sign up – as of now I’ve heard from 13 folks who will be going. Friends are welcome.
Be at Bob Evans in Macedonia by 10 AM this Friday, October 4, if you want to ride…[Read more]
AIMExpo is this weekend at the Columbus Convention Center. I plan to ride down on Saturday, leaving from Bob Evans at the Medina exit on I-71 (3049 Medina Rd) at 9:30 AM. If I get up early enough I’ll be there at 8:30 for breakfast. Anyone who cares to join me is welcome. Tickets are available on the MOA website for a reduced price of $12.
For those interested in off-road riding Saturday in the Wayne National Forest here is an excerpt from the National Forest Map.The area west of Dean State Forest (in blue) shows the most unimproved roads (double dotted lines) and is about an hour’s ride from the hotel.
Our fall weekend ride for 2019 takes us to Gallipolis (GAL-ə-pə-LEES) on the banks of the Ohio River, 70 miles southwest of Marietta and next door to the Ironton district of the Wayne National Forest. Gallipolis was settled in 1790 (only two years after Marietta, the oldest city in Ohio) by a group of French aristocrats and merchants es…[Read more]

We had a great time this past weekend riding the amazing roads in southern Ohio and northern West Virginia. The weather wasn’t optimal, but the roads were. We had a total of 24 bikes and 25 riders (see final roster in Post #1). The camaraderie, mutual support, and shared enthusiasm for motorcycling were something to behold.
A special thanks to…[Read more]

This year’s ride will take us on some outstanding Appalachian roads within a 100-mile radius of Marietta Ohio. This area that is part of the unglaciated Allegheny Plateau, a particularly remote and rugged section of the Appalachians.
