The East Side ride this Saturday will take us down to the Brush Creek Wildlife Area south of Salineville to Grammy’s Kitchen in Amsterdam for lunch. SR 14 to Salem, SR 9 to Kensington, and SR 644 to Salineville for our rest stop. The riding gets good on SR 9 and 644, but really good when we turn off onto CR 55 and follow it east along the north s…[Read more]

Our first user group on February 26 was a success – we had 9 participants and I think it’s fair to say we all learned something. Our next meeting will be Saturday, March 19, 10:00 – 11:30 AM at the Parma-Snow Branch of the Cuyahoga County Library.
Topic
We’re going to start out this meeting with Road Captain Duncan Cooper walking us through the…[Read more]

The GPS/Basecamp User Group is coming up this Saturday, 10 AM to noon, at the Parma-Snow Branch of the Cuyahoga County Library. If you intend to create your own route in Basecamp, and you have not already done so, now would be a good time to work your way through the New England Riders Tutorial (see top post). It’s probably not realistic to learn…[Read more]

Eric, your Garmin Nav IV should work just fine if you want to use it. The Nav VI is the most recent BMW badged model — it has been known to have problems with the screen but Garmin is good about replacing it. I’m not familiar with the regular Garmin models but I think there is a relatively recent one. Others may chime in on this.
I have a mount…[Read more]

In-person GPS/Basecamp User Group meetings are back! Our first meeting, Saturday February 26 at 10 AM, will help participants create their own route in Basecamp and load it into their GPS.
Why bother learning Basecamp?
I use Basecamp for several reasons. One, it helps me create interesting routes to my destinations. It’s easier to just t…[Read more]

A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL!
Thanks to the 14 club members who joined me (see post above) we had a marvelous weekend in Marietta. The weather was perfect Friday, a little rainy and cool on Saturday, and the same on Sunday, but the riding was great. In my group Ohio 255 seemed to be the consensus winner, with West Virginia 36 a close second. Dinner…[Read more]

Our Marietta Weekend Ride is coming up soon – less than 2 weeks away. If you haven’t reserved your room yet I suggest you do so soon. The Microtel is booked up Friday night, but it looks like the Hampton Inn next door has availability for both the 15th and 16th.
Please let me know if you are planning to do the ride so I can plan accordingly and…[Read more]

I found this rider’s report on the roads we’ll be taking to Marietta posted on NineTOwners.com by Tim C and thought you might be interested. Tim is from Ravenna – maybe some of you know him?
“I took 2-lane highways south …… to hit my favorite road in the region, Ohio Route 536. OH 536 is only about 12 miles in length, but it is amazing. You…[Read more]

Four our final Saturday West ride of the 2021 season we’ll be heading back down to Mohican State Park and Forest, with lunch at Landoll’s Castle. We did this last year in October and it was a memorable ride. Elaine and I pre-drove the routes for Friday and Saturday – all roads are in remarkably good shape and there are no closures or detours. The ride Friday down to Marietta is a winner! You all know 800 and 26 are good roads, but the 536/255 loop down to the Ohio river is really amazing. Both follow ridgetops and have great elevation changes down to…[Read more]

Sorry about the phone number, Roger. The correct number is: (740) 373-7373.
The hold on rooms has expired, but I don’t think there will be a problem getting a room. Elaine and I stayed at the Microtel earlier this week and it is well-managed and maintained. Breakfast included waffles, fresh fruit, etc., etc. Bob Evans is next door if you want…[Read more]

The Marietta Weekend Ride is back! Covid knocked us out last year, but I think we can make it happen this year. I’ll be leading a group down on Friday, or you can do your own ride down if you prefer. Our ride Saturday will take us down to the Tappan-Moravian Trail Scenic Byway a small winding ridgetop road with lots of hills and corners on good asphalt. The road follows closely the natural contours of the the land so expect blind hills and off camber curves. This is one of my (many) favorite rides because it takes us to less traveled parts of the state that offer great riding on small roads with little traffic. From Bobs in Macedonia we’ll take I-480 and Route 14 down to Salem, and then Route 9 to Hanoverton. Route 9 is good riding, but it gets better when we pick up Route 644 and head south to…[Read more]
