ParticipantFor our final Saturday West ride of the 2021 season we’ll be heading back down to Mohican State Park and Forest, with lunch at Landoll’s Castle. We did this last year in October and it was a memorable ride. From Bobs in Brunswick we’ll ride south on I-71 to the Burbank exit where we’ll pick up Overton Road, a small scenic road following Kilbuck Creek down to Wooster and one of the best kept secrets west of I-71. At Wooster we’ll turn west onto the Old Lincoln Road, dedicated in 1903 as America’s first transcontinental road, and we’ll see some original houses and barns along the way as we ride west to our rest stop at the Hayesville Marathon on US 30 at the Rte 60 exit. For those who would like to meet us at Hayesville we should be there around 11:15 AM.
From Hayesville we’ll take country roads south to Perrysville where the terrain becomes more wooded and hilly and the road more curvy. We’ll meander through Mohican Park on heavily forested roads, maybe see a deer or two (keep an eye out!), and take a second rest stop at the dramatic Gorge Overlook of the Clear Fork River canyon in Mohican State Forest. Leaving the Park we’ll head southeast to pick up Jericho Road at Rte 514 and then turn north toward the Park and Landoll’s Mohican Castle, an outlandish luxury hotel hidden away on top of a heavily wooded hill. We’ll have lunch at the Copper Mug Bar and Grille on their outdoor patio, weather permitting.
We should be at the Castle by 1 PM, and depending on the size of our group lunch could be a leisurely affair so plan accordingly. If you want to meet us for lunch you’ll need to find your way to Landoll’s Mohican Castle, 561 Township Road 3352, about 5 miles directly south (as the bird flies) of Loudenville. For reference in planning your return trip, the castle is about 20 miles due south of Ashland on I-71.
As always, we’ll depart Bob’ Evans in Brunswick promptly at 10 AM. Come early for breakfast or coffee (note: service can be slow). Invite your friends. All bikes are welcome.

ParticipantHello all,
I am new to the group and am considering the SAT ride. Do any of the members ever stay at the duration of the trip and Camp? I would like to get another camping experience in before the end of season. Looking forward to meeting you all.

ParticipantOK, I am laughing pretty hard right now – not sure where Roger got that picture – I think from Crains CLE business back in the 90’s! I will try to find a way to update to 62 year old guy!
Ok – sorry for so many updates – wife just informed me from 2015.
