ParticipantOur second Saturday Ride from the west side will be leaving Bob Evans in Brunswick at 10 AM on June 1 – at least that’s what we’re hoping. Last month the restaurant was packed so the group got a late start.
We’ll circle south of Brunswick over to Rte 252 and then head south through beautiful farming country in the rolling hills of western Medina County. Some of the roads are very small (but all paved) and don’t even have ditches, so we get very close to our surroundings – violet and white wildflowers dotting the roadside, occasional fields of blazing yellow canola, all framed by trees decked out in their lush new green leaves. Most of the crops are in by now, but we’ll probably see a few farmers out working their fields.
As we cross into Wayne county we’ll jog further west, continuing our leisurely ride through the country. The hills become a little taller, and roads a little curvier, but the blacktop is in excellent shape for the most part. Our rest stop will be at the McDonald’s in Loudenville, 1.5 hours into the ride, so be sure to empty your “tank” before we leave Bob’s in Brunswick.
From Loudenville we’ll take Wally Road Scenic Byway (no, it wasn’t named after me!) through Ashland and Knox Counties, and then take some of the best roads of the ride (most curves and hills) east past the Holmes County Airport and on to Millersburg for lunch at the Olde World Bakery and Bistro on main street. They make all their own breads and desserts, and have wonderful sandwiches, soups and salads. Yum!
It will be close to 1 PM by the time we have lunch, so you should figure on a full day for this ride – in the heart of Holmes County Amish Country there are no fast roads to any place but you’ll have your pick of many small scenic roads to get you north to main roads to take you home.
Be sure to come with a full tank of gas, your tires aired up, and a supply of fresh drinking water. The gpx file for the route, BobsB to Millersburg Wally Rd Old World, is posted on the website should you care to download it and follow along.
See you June 1!

ParticipantI’d like to leave Bob Evans in Brunswick tomorrow at 10 AM sharp. We have about 3 hours down to Millersburg and I’d like to get there by 1 PM for lunch. So, if want to have breakfast come early and get a table – don’t wait on others to arrive. The restaurant gets busy on Saturday mornings.
The forecast for Millersburg tomorrow is for 80 degrees at 1 PM with a chance of thunderstorms, but precipitation only in the hundredths of an inch so I think we’ll be just fine weather wise.
I’m looking forward to a good ride tomorrow. Non-members and all kinds of bikes are welcome.
