Dennis Owens, our club president, will be leading the ride this Saturday, August 3. I mapped out what I think will be a nice route over to the Sandusky Fish Co, famous for their fresh Lake Erie Perch and Walleye. I’m thinking it will be nice since I got recommendations from Pete Stokes, a member of our club who is familiar with the area. But just to be sure there are no dirt roads (Pete’s reputation seems to be worse than mine!) or closed roads I’ll be checking out the route this Wednesday and will post the gpx file later Wednesday or Thursday.
As usual, meet at Bob Evans in Brunswick(I-71 and SR 303) around 9 for breakfast. Ride will depart promptly at 10 AM. Come with a full tank of gas. With a little luck it won’t be too hot, or too rainy.
REVISED ROUTE — The Wednesday group pre-rode the route yesterday and it’s good we did. There were several road closures and a little improvisation yielded an even better route, one that will take you through the Vermillion River Reservation where you will have a nice rest stop. I think you’ll enjoy your ride through the rich farmland south of Oberlin. The country side is lush green, the corn is tall and dark, and the occasional orchards and vineyards are bearing fruit. As always, the fresh walleye and perch at the Sandusky Fish Company were succulent. And, I have to say, Pete Stokes knows his roads – you’ll be riding some great small ones with curves and hills. Who knew there were hills and curves in NW Ohio!
