Departure from Bobs in Macedonia: 266 Highland Rd, Macedonia, OH
Saturday morning we’ll head north and east to Ashtabula and lunch at the Crow’s Nest (Italian home cooking and yummy deserts) We’ll take Twinsburg and Old Mill Roads east, ride SR Route 306 a bit before getting to Taylor May Road and take more small roads over to Auburn Road and north to Geauga County’s Observatory Park for our rest stop. There is a GREEN sanitary facility at this location. Observatory Park is a Dark Sky Park and offers quite an assortment of night-time educational programs using their telescope. The Park District has also taken over the historic Nassau Station research observatory which we’ll pass by just as we leave the Park and head north. From the Park, we take Routes 166 and 103 north to the Lake Erie shoreline, and west just a few miles back to Ashtabula and lunch.
Come with a full tank of fuel as there won’t be any gas stops on the route. With the rest stop, the travel time will be ~ 3 hours, 10 minutes for the 97mile ride through Geauga County. Keep an eye open for Amish buggies as well.
We’ll depart promptly at 10 AM. Come early for breakfast or coffee.
PLEASE review the Riding RULES/Tips as well as the Corner Marking procedures (a.k.a ”Drop & Sweep”) on http://www.bmwmoc.org website. Due to the size of the Saturday rides, we will probably break the group into smaller segments using the “Drop & Sweep” procedures.
Download the BobsM to Briquettes210602.gpx file from the club site for the ride route. It was originally plotted for a nearby restaurant, but that location is parking poor.
