ParticipantHeads Up! I like this resort; love those roads! Eat them roads up like chocolate on chocolate!
Upcoming Events:
Canaan Valley MSTA Rally – May 19-22, 2022
A new event will be held at the Canaan Valley Resort near Davis, WV. This Just for Fun rally is open to all motorcycle riders, regardless of club affiliation. There is NO RALLY FEE for this event, however we will be collecting donations for the Ride For Kids Foundation (suggested donation of $10). Beyond the small costs for registration, etc., all donations will go to the fund, so please give what you can. We will offer the same street and ADV routes that we used for the 2021 STAR, but we’ve refined them to address concerns noted last June. They will be available for download to GPS devices.
REGISTRATION IS OPEN NOWThe Canaan Valley Resort has given us group rates for 4-BR cabins ($303/night) and lodge rooms ($99/night) – discounted 30-40 percent from the seasonal rates. They are holding 10 rooms and five cabins under the MSTA name until March 19. You can reserve your room by calling the resort at 304-866-4121. Ask for a room in the MSTA block to get the discount. Or you can reserve online HERE NOTE: People who want to use the cabins should coordinate a group of four or more. If you form the group before you register, the resort can take separate payments. Otherwise, one person will need to make the deposit and advance payment, and then collect from the other members who stay at the cabin. On site registration hours will be Thursday from 5-6 pm, Friday from 7:30-8:30 am and 5-6 pm, and Saturday from 7:30-8 am. If you cannot make these times, please contact Chris Shoop for other arrangements. If you have any questions, call Chris @ 304-488-9128 (reasonable hours) or Email at shoopce@gmail.com.
To register for the event please go to: https://reg.planetreg.com/CanaanValleyJFF
Contact Eric Small at es1hero@outlook.com or other reference shown above for any further details.

ParticipantI’m planning to go. Planning to ride down Thursday and ride back home Sunday. I’m looking for someone to double up on one of the lodge rooms (2 queen beds).

ParticipantIt looks like there is camping there, so I am planning on camping if anyone wants to share a site. Like Rodger, I’ll head up on Thursday.

ParticipantActually, there is only camping for RVs, so Crissy and I reserved a room at the lodge. There is a group rate of $99 a night for rally participants with limited availability at that price, so don’t snooze. I will be happy to lead a ride there and will do the ADV routes when we get there, and again will be happy to lead.

ParticipantMy fellow “Children of the Magenta Line” (aka GPS users)
I have posted 9 GPS tracks/routes from the Canaan Valley Resort. They are in the GPS page of the ‘About+extra’ section.
or here… http://bmwmoc.org/gps-route-files-download/
They’re titled;
- River Runs Thru It ; 2. Five Rivers Tour ; 3. Gladys Fork Dry Fork ; 4. Hacker Valley Challenge ; 5. Whistlepunk ; 6. Chris’s Favorite ; 7. Long and Easy ; 8. Crazy4 8’s ; 9. Road to Tom’s.
The number at the end of the route name is the mileage therein.
The Five River’s Tour has an Ed Desimone-worthy leg which is definitely NOT big bike friendly unless you have off-road experience (Ed does!) There is a work-around route for big bikes, so it’s not a deal breaker. (editorial note; Sikora and I went-for-that-fake..and paid the price..)

ParticipantI’m tentatively in a cabin with the ride organizer, Chris Shoop, and one of his friends. If we can find one more that will make four, and then it will change from tentative to definite. Anybody want to jump in? Just say so.

ParticipantThanks to Senor Wally’s excellent Basecamp tutorial today, I mapped out a route (actually a track) to the resort. If anyone wants to ride with me, PM or get a hold of me somehow.
Here’s the GPX file:
It’s called: Circle K to Canaan Valley.
It can be found in the ‘About+extras’ tab above also.

ParticipantEd, that looks like a nice route. I’m coming down from the southeast side of Akron, I’d like to meet up with you somewhere in the Strasburg/Dover/New Philly area.

ParticipantOk boys, I’ve been looking at the routes at the rally and I’m thinking about doing 18 and 19. Wondering if anyone has a preference, or those who will be able to ride Saturday only, which one they would like to ride? Loop 18 is IMAT Loop 3, and 19 is IMAT loop 1.

ParticipantEd-I haven’t had a chance to look at those loops yet; I did ride south out of Canaan with three Spirited GS riders and had one of the best riding experiences ever! Thank you, guys!
Because we rode over the two southern mountain ranges with switchbacks up and down; amazing, especially on well-marked signed roads! It might of been 32 and 33 south. But OMG check out 250 zig ally wiggly going over the same, but maybe to far of a ride to get started to 250?

ParticipantFYI, for a short ride tomorrow morning, four riders are departing from Lager Heads at 9am, and returning to the same around 12:30 for lunch. Come join us & putt mom on the back for a special treat!

ParticipantOk Boyz, here’s the scoop on the ride down next week:
It is going to be a long day of riding twisty fun roads there, so we need to get an early start. Meetup will be at the Sheetz in New Philadelphia, (1281 W High Ave) across from the Hog Heaven at 0900. We will be KSU (kickstands up) at 0930.
Please bring a sack lunch because we have a lot of miles to cover and a two hour sit down lunch is out of the question. Also, it will be quite rural and services are few and far between. I will stop every hour or so to stretch, fuel and snack.
Friday and Saturday I will lead an ADV ride if you all want to join me.
Questions or concerns, DM me or Call.
It’s going to be epic folks!!!
