RIDE REPORT
What a day it was yesterday – mid 70’s, sunny skies, and a slight breeze – and what a marvelous ride we had. Thirty-five riders on 30 bikes participated in what turned out to be a 3.5 hour ride to the New Sandusky Fish Co, where we dined on fresh-caught perch and walleye in a gazebo overlooking the bay. A special thanks to Kurt and Karen for hosting one of our rest stops in their spacious backyard.
We formed into two groups for the ride and followed the Drop and Sweep method for staying on-route. The small roads and many turns involved made it a challenge but we managed pretty well. Although we’re getting good at Drop and Sweep we still have a few kinks to work out. More and more riders are loading the GPS routes in their devices which made it possible yesterday for Paul M, Sandi and Rich to help out with leader and sweep duties. – thanks! Only a couple of people let Ms GPS recalculate their route which made for some interesting variations.
The only bummer of the day was Dottie making an “unplanned dismount” after going wide on a turn. She broke her arm but should be ready to ride again in a couple of months. The silver lining is it sounds like a new bike is in her future. Dottie, just so you know, many of us have gone down (I have gone off corners 3 times!) and there is always room to improve our skills. We’re all hoping for a speedy recovery for you, and when you’re back on the bike we’ll do the Sandusky Fish Co ride again.
It was good to see so many folks out yesterday – thanks to all for making it a memorable day.
