Hi folks. I was disappointed that there isn’t going to be a Marietta “Wally Ride” this year so I thought I might put one together if there was any interest. Our old friend Steve Clarke always liked the fall Wally Ride and this month marks the second year of his passing, so I’m thinking of this ride as a bit of a memorial. I’ll start putting some details together and keep everyone updated via this forum topic. Here’s what I have so far: Start-meet on Friday, 10/17 at 9:00am at the Speedway at 1260 West High Ave. in New Philadelphia, take 250e to 800s. Take 800s to Woodsfield, head east on OH 78 out of Woodsfield, then take OH 536s to OH 7w, then to OH 255n, then ride OH 255n back up to OH 800n, break for lunch in Woodsfield, take 800s to 26s(w) to Marietta. On OH 536 there is a side road that goes to a park looking out over the Ohio River, a nice little stop. Microtel (506 Pike St.) in Marietta. Dinner at the Mexican place next door. Saturday, 10/18, 9:00am, rte.7e to the Hi Carpenter bridge to WV 2e to 16s to Barker’s One Stop in Smithville for a break, back on 16s to Gauley Bridge (the town, not the bridge) then back up to Marietta (route TBD). Dinner at Spagna’s Saturday night. Back home Sunday 10/19. I called Microtel on Monday, 9/8 and they said they anticipated a lot of reservations that weekend because of Marietta College’s homecoming so best to make your reservations soon (I made mine on Monday).
That’s all I have so far, I’ll fill in the blanks as I work out the details. I’m not very good at Basecamp, so if anyone wants to build a route, please do. I left Saturday 10/18s ride kind of open intentionally. As long as the group isn’t too large, we can do some improvising on the way back from Gauley Bridge. Glad you guys are interested.
