I had a 1996 R1100RS but have no personal experience with piston ring replacement.

I have the Haynes service manual which you are welcome to borrow. I also have transcripts from the 2004 BMW RA Rally where engine disassembly was covered in a seminar.  I’d be happy to bring the documents to you.
